2 Corinthians 9:6-11
6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.
At DCMI, we believe in the concept of "be it unto you according to YOUR FAITH". In this passage of scripture, the great Apostle Paul admonishes the people to give as "every man purposeth in his heart." The word "heart" in this passage speaks of "the seat and center of all physical and spiritual life".
The next part of the verse says, "not grudgingly", or "out of sorrow, pain, grief, annoyance, affliction", or "of necessity", or "imposed either by the circumstances, or by law of duty regarding to one's advantage, custom, argument" for God "loveth", or "dearly loves and is well pleased with" a "cheerful", or "joyous, prompt to do anything" giver.
Based on these word studies, we understand that God never meant for giving to be laborious and disheartening. Our motive for giving should never be that we need so much, or even want so much. This scripture says that God dearly loves and is well pleased with a "cheerful" giver.
Here's the model: John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave..." Let our giving be out of love for His house and His people, not out of NEED or NESESSITY. When we learn to give this way, the promise is, "God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God." vv 8, 11.
Let our giving be "proactive", as we purpose, and not "reactive", as we need. Proactive giving keeps verse 6 alive in our lives. As we sow much, we will reap much. Trouble is not the time to start sowing. We should always be in a state of perpetual sowing and, consequently, in a state of perpetual harvest according to the word of God. As you give, give with this thought in mind and confess the blessings of verse 10 upon you, your family and your business and/or ministry.
